Sanofi to invest 75 million USD in Saigon Hi-Tech Park. “This new production and development center is the largest investment ever made by Sanofi in Vietnam and illustrates our commitment to bringing high quality medicines to a broader population in Vietnam”, said by Mr. Christopher A. Viehbacher, Chief Executive Officer of Sanofi, “this new investment would contribute to further strengthen Sanofi’s leadership position in Vietnam” (from Sanofi).The project has an initial capacity of 90 million units per year, and possibly extends up to 150 million units. The plant is scheduled to be fully operational in 2015. The project of “Manufacturing Plant and Research Center in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and functional foods” of Sanofi has an investment capital of 75 million USD which will be located in Phase II of SHTP with the total area of 72,000 m2. One of the purpose of the project is to build up a unique Research Center of Sanofi in Southeast Asia to research and develop the high quality and latest products of Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Health care and Functional foods for local and Asian markets. The center will conduct research and development of new products, transfer and assign products from Sanofi to Vietnam, develop and evaluate new testing methods and support other plants to improve formulas, production processes and troubleshooting. The other is to construct a Plant to produce high quality products of Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Health care and Functional foods to meet the requirement of medical treatment in Vietnam and to export to Asian countries, under the development policies of pharmaceutical industry of Vietnamese Government. This “state-of-the-art” plant will be designed on GMP standards of WTO and other standards of environment and quality of Sanofi Aventis. It is also applied the Lean Management for optimization of production process. The investment project of Sanofi has marked the 50-year relationship between Vietnam and France, as well as 50 years of presence of Sanofi in Vietnam. In the mean time, it has proved the ideal investment environment of Ho Chi Minh City and the commitment of the city’s government for FDI attraction in hi-tech sectors.
