COLD STORAGE IN THE MEKONG DELTA: OPPORTUNITIES ARE IN THE FOREFRONT

The Mekong River Delta is the center of rice, fruit and seafood in Vietnam, contributing over 60% of the national output to each sector. However, with logistics infrastructure, especially the system Cold storage, it is still limited. This is the knot for the economic growth of the area.

Pankaj Mehta, Managing Director of Carrier Transicold, India & South Asia, shared the practical experience of a cold supply chain that helps preserve fruit value in India and reduces post-harvest losses to less than 10%.

Started operating from October, 2016 with advanced technology, energy saving according to international standards, with a total size of cold storage up to 47,200 pallets (equivalent to 50,000 tons), Mekong Logistics is attempting to combine two-way source, optimizing its distribution network to save up to 30% of logistical costs for exporters in the Mekong Delta and 20% of logistical costs for consumer goods manufacturing enterprises when they distribute in the Mekong Delta market. The Mekong Logistics project is still in the process of finding more customers, providing new services and connecting with ports and transportation systems in the region with Cai Mep international port complex. Therefore, Mekong Logistics will play an
important role in preserving the value of Vietnamese seafood.
