SGS LABORATORY IN HAI PHONG, VIETNAM, SERVING THE CONSUMER GOODS AND RETAIL INDUSTRY

In the latest of our series of laboratory focus articles we explore SGS’s new consumer goods testing laboratory in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

SGS opened a new consumer testing facility in Hai Phong, Northern Vietnam, in January 2017. This new laboratory compliments SGS’s existing resources in Vietnam, allowing nation-wide access to independent state-of-the-art testing facilities for a wide range of consumer products manufacturers.

Hai Phong is Vietnam’s third largest city and has been earmarked by the government as a center of economic growth. SGS’s opening of a dedicated northern Vietnamese laboratory demonstrates the importance of this region for consumer goods manufacturing – especially for the production of jewelry and candles.

The new laboratory offers a number of tests for jewelry, including:

X-Ray thickness analysis

Plating and coating adhesion

Perspiration resistance

Accelerated nickel leach

Strength of jewelry assembly

Stretch bracelet pull

Torque testing for soldered or swedged joints

Impact drop

Stone adhesion clay

Coating conductivity

Sulfur or tellurium tarnish

Ear post fusion

Tarnish resistance

Physical testing – ASTM F963

Associated tests for lead, cadmium and nickel

And for candle manufacturers, SGS at Hai Phong offers tests for:

Burning

Weight

Dimension

Sooting index

Temperature record

Flammability

Thermal shock

Safety labeling

Lead in surface coating and metal wick

In addition to its services for the candle and jewelry industry, the new laboratory also provides both physical and restricted substances testing for a wide range of products, including:

Textiles

Apparel

Footwear

Handbags

Toys

Hard goods

SGS has been providing quality, reputable and independent services in Vietnam since 1989. It currently employs over 900 people and gives Vietnamese manufacturers access to cutting-edge laboratory testing equipment. In addition to the new facility at Hai Phong, SGS has also recently enhanced its testing laboratory in Ho Chi Minh City and now offers additional services for footwear, toys, furniture and baby cribs.
