VIETNAM: PROGRESS REPORT ON THE AQUACULTURE COMPONENT OF COUNTRY NAP ON AMR

 

1.1. DEVELOPMENT OF NAP

 

• FAO supported Vietnam to develop the NAP since 2016

• MARD issued Decision No. 2625/QĐ-BNN-TY dated 21/6/2017 on National Action Plan for the Control of Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance in livestock production and aquaculture (2017-2020)

 

1.2. OBJECTIVES OF NAP

 

o Overall objective:

• Mitigate the risk of antibiotic resistance in public health through controlling the antibiotic usage in livestock production and aquaculture in Vietnam. 

o Specific objective: 

• Review and enforce policy and governance related to AMR and AMU in livestock production and aquaculture.

• Increase awareness of AMU and AMR among livestock and aquaculture professionals, producers and consumers.

• Implement good treatment and husbandry practices in livestock production and aquaculture.

• Monitor AMR, AMU and antimicrobial residues in food and agriculture.

• Facilitate inter-sectoral collaboration in management of the risk of AMR.
